Hook, Line, and Murder
About
For fans of the Thursday Murder Club, get ready to meet: Meg, Barbara, Edna, Liz and Stefan.
Who says hunting killers won’t heal a broken heart? Not when each murder Meg solves brings her closer to the truth.
Meg, retired kindergarten teacher, can't let go of the past. Not when the killer of her husband and only child still walks free a year after dirt had covered their graves. But when the detective responsible for Meg’s nightmares takes over the murder investigation of her former student, Meg vows justice for her student; the justice denied to her loved ones.
She hunts the killer down with help from her friends, Barbara, Edna, Liz and Stefan; all retirees from Post Elementary School. They turn their cozy lunches at Sweet Buns Café into tactical meetings while chaos explodes around them. Edna is accused of the murder and she goes AWOL with her ninety-year old mother suffering from dementia. Liz and Stefan stalk suspects on social media, digging for clues while Barbara does what she does best-keep everyone's feet flat on the ground.
To put the icing on their cream scones, someone is after Meg. Is it the killer? Or have these unlikely sleuths uncovered secrets better left buried with Meg's dearly departed?
Praise for this book
This was a nicely executed whodunit that I could not put down until all was said and done...With visually descriptive narrative and informative dialogue, the story came alive on the page and as it moved forward the suspenseful nature intensified...an enjoyable read and I look forward to more adventures with Meg and her friends in this delightfully charming new series.
With fun, snappy dialogue that puts the reader into the middle of each scene—no matter what it might entail...a great story that...we look forward to seeing where author Calpo will take things. On a scale of 1-5, Hook, Line and Murder merits a 4.5.
In a story filled with twists, the last one was a shocker. Hook, Line, and Murder is a layered story with a twisty mystery filled with emotional moments that pull at your heart. It has set this series off to a terrific start. I am looking forward to Book 2.
